Talking tech since 2003

According to multiple sources familiar with the company’s Xbox plans Microsoft will introduce a feature that lets its next-generation console take over a TV and set-top box. The Verge says that the functionality will work by taking a cable box signal and passing it through to the Xbox via HDMI, which will allow Microsoft’s console to overlay a UI and other features on top of an existing TV channel or set-top box.

Microsoft is said to also be partnering with content providers and will also have support for various cable providers, which will be rolled out gradually. There is also plans to utilize the next-gen Kinect sensor in this push for the living room. Apparently, the next Kinect will detect multiple people simultaneously, including the ability to detect eye movement so it can pause content when a viewer turns their head away from a TV.

It’s also rumored that there will be an event in May held by Microsoft to unveil the next Xbox.
