Talking tech since 2003

It’s no secret that most smartphone videos leave a lot to be desired. Instagram’s new app, Hyperlapse, is here to change that—no editing or filters necessary! Gone are the days of shaky self-shot footage that leaves viewers feeling nauseous. With Hyperlapse, your videos will be transformed from unwatchable amateur clips into smooth and stabilized movie-esque productions that will have top movie directors knocking on your door to borrow your notes.

The app has an ultra simple user interface with only a record button and a slider that allows you to adjust the speed of video playback from 1X to 12X. The stabilization is made possible by a sophisticated algorithm map that tracks motion and turns it into a smooth video with a time-lapse feel to it.

As a photographer, I am tired of seeing shaky handheld videos that leave you with your head spinning; therefore, Hyperlapse will be a welcome addition to my app collection. Now if only someone could develop an app that will rotate iPhone videos for those special individuals that regularly forget to turn their phone 90 degrees before hitting record.

For the time being, Hyperlapse is only available on iOS, however, an Android app is in the works and will be available at a later date.
