Talking tech since 2003

Amazon just slashed the price of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ in the U.S. to $269 for the 16GB WiFi version, $299 for the 32GB WiFi version, and $399 for the 4G version.  The original price of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 16GB WiFi version was $299, meaning Amazon shed $30 off the price tag.  When it came to the 4G version, Amazon lowered the price by $100.

The change in price makes the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ even that much more affordable when compared to an iPad and also puts it closer to the price range of devices such as the Nexus 7.  It also allows the 4G version to compete directly with the Nexus 10, which starts at $399 and doesn’t offer any cellular connectivity.

Additionally, with the new pricing, Amazon is also releasing the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Japan.

We reviewed the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ late last year, so be sure to check out our complete Kindle Fire HD 8.9 review, if you’re thinking about purchasing one.
