Talking tech since 2003

The holiday season is fast approaching, and gaming fans will likely already have some of the year’s hottest video game titles on their wish list. 2019 has seen the launch of some incredible content for console, PC and mobile – and the year isn’t out yet! November and December usually see a flurry of launches just in time for the festive season, and 2019 is no exception. Read on to discover our picks of the biggest and most exciting video games this Christmas.

The Outer Worlds

After the much-anticipated Fallout 76 fell flat on its release, followers of the series have been looking for something to fill the void–and The Outer Worlds could be it. Made by Obsidian Games, Bethesda’s partners on Fallout: New Vegas, this action-RPG takes players on a first person adventure through outer space, visiting alien planets controlled by various mega corporations back on Earth. Available since October for console and PC, and coming next year on Steam and Nintendo Switch, The Outer Worlds is already getting rave reviews.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

The ever-popular Call Of Duty series has revived its Modern Warfare spin-off, and it is sure to fly off the shelves this Christmas. Developed by Infinity Ward, the first person shooter includes campaign and online multiplayer modes. Set in fictional Urzikstan, the game pits CIA and SAS forces plus local rebels, against terrorists from the Al-Qatala organization and the invading Russian forces. The use of moral choices, non-linear objectives and tactical play decisions – even in multiplayer – have certainly breathed new life into the game.

Civilization VI

Build, expand and conquer in this turn-based strategy game by Firaxis Games. Released back in 2016 for PC players, it is finally coming to consoles in time for Christmas 2019. Players must collect resources, shape the terrain available to them, and turn bare land into thriving cities in order to meet the game’s goals – and also beat their opponents. Civilization VI features eighteen worlds in the base game, including Victorian England, the Mongol Empire, and Norway’s Vikings under Harold Hardrada.

Fans of Viking-themed gameplay should check out the all-new Vikings video slot, developed by NetEnt and based on the popular television series. It is available now for PC and mobile.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Games in the Star Wars franchise rarely disappoint fans, and Fallen Order certainly bears the hallmarks of a great title. Launching just in time for Christmas, this could well be among the biggest sellers of the season. A sequel to Revenge of the Sith, it follows Padawan Cal Kestis as he seeks to escape the Galactic Empire. The action-adventure title launches on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, through publishers Electronic Arts, in mid-November.

Death Stranding

Developed by the makers of the cult game Metal Gear Solid, and starring The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, Death Stranding is one of the most exciting video game projects of recent years. The action title is based on a fictional event in a futuristic United States, with terrifying creatures and hordes of bandits unleashed on the world. Players must help Sam, a caro delivery specialist, navigate the world and complete his distribution tasks. With online functionality and an open world map, there is more to this game than first meets the eye.

Though late 2019 at first glance seems to be lacking in big name releases, this has opened the door for smaller franchises, sequels and independent titles. There are many exciting video games already out, or due for release before Christmas. These are just a few of the top picks. In addition, all the usual top-range sports games, from NBA to FIFA, have received their annual upgrade – and these are sure to be popular with Christmas buyers.
