Talking tech since 2003

Skyscraper, the monetization platform that worked hard to make it super simple for publishers (both big and small) to monetize their sites is officially sunsetting on September 30, 2013.  We first covered Skyscraper back in March of this year.  According to a post on the company’s site, the team has discovered an even bigger opportunity within the publisher/advertiser space and will be focusing their efforts on developing that.

Over the course of the year, we learned quite a bit about what both publishers and advertisers need and discovered an even bigger opportunity to help — one that we’ve decided to fully focus our efforts on.

As such, the Skyscraper monetization platform as we know it will officially sunset on September 30th, 2013.

What is that new opportunity exactly? Well, the Skyscraper team is keeping quiet for the most part right now, but it appears to have to do with facilitating connections between publishers and advertisers. As a growing publisher I can tell you that this is in fact a huge pain point and one that really needs to be solved.

We’re laser focused on creating a better way for publishers and advertisers to connect. That problem still exists and we’re working to solve it.

We’ll be reaching out to Skyscraper to find out more and will update you once we learn more. I, for one, am excited to see what the Skyscraper team is cooking up.

All current campaigns on Skyscraper will run through September 30th, no new campaigns can be created. Additionally, all house inventory campaigns will stop running on September 30. If you need an alternative to Skyscraper to run your ads you can try Passionfruit Ads. If you are willing to consider a more in-house tool for WordPress, I’ve had some luck with OIO Publisher.
