New Yorker’s can now use apps to e-hail taxi’s, according to a new ruling by the appellate division of the New York County Supreme Court.  The ruling which came down today has officially given the green light to the city’s e-hail pilot program, after it had been stalled in court by litigation and a preliminary injunction driven by black-car and livery-drivers.

While this is a major win for the people in New York, there are still some limitations.  Yes, you are now able to hail cabs from your smartphone, however, you won’t be able to use apps to pay for your rides, yet.  That’s the next obstacle to overcome, though it could be resolved within a matter of weeks.

The ruling is great news for companies like Uber and Hailo, which have been fighting for e-hailing for quite sometime, because it means services like UberTAXI are back and fully operational.

As a native New Yorker myself, I’m quite excited.
