You finally did it. You made that big move, picking up stakes and planting them down again in a brand new country. We know how tough that can be — starting over again in an unfamiliar place. But you’ll get there! You’ll learn how to remember your new address. You’ll eventually figure out where the grocery store is.

One of the minor things you might not even think of, though, is how your move will affect your devices. You know, your iPhone and your iPad. If you’re in an entirely different region, you certainly can’t go buying from the U.S. store anymore.

That means you’ll need to change the country associated with your Apple ID.

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy. Before you commit, though, you’ll want to do a few things first. If you have store credit, spend it. If you have subscriptions tied to your account, cancel them. And then get the payment method from your new home ready. It’s time.

How to change country for Apple ID

  1. To start, use Touch ID or Face ID to access your device.
  2. Next, open the Settings app, tap on your name, and then tap iTunes & App Store.
  3. Tap View Apple ID, and re-enter your password if necessary.
  4. Tap the Country/Region option, and then tap Change Country or Region.
  5. Tap on the new country you’d like to associate your Apple ID with, and then scroll down and tap Agree to accept Apple’s terms and conditions.
  6. Choose the payment method you’d like to use, enter your payment information, and then tap Next.
  7. That’s it!
