Talking tech since 2003

While we all eagerly await the September 10th unveiling of the next-generation iPhone, today we’re getting a clearer picture of what Apple may have in store for next month’s big event. While AllThingsD was confident that Apple would be announcing the iPhone 5S at the event, The Wall Street Journal is now adding fuel to the fire, suggesting that Apple is also planning on announcing the upcoming “budget” iPhone, known as the iPhone 5C, at the same time as the iPhone 5S.

According to the report, Apple has asked iPhone assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry – better known as Foxconn – to ship both a new high-end iPhone as well as a low-end iPhone in early September, suggesting that the two devices will launch at the same time. The story also claims that Apple asked Foxconn to begin production of the iPhone 5C as early as June in order to meet the September launch date, which would make sense with the all but “officially confirmed” September 10 iPhone event.

Apple is expected to be significantly overhauling their iPhone line next month as it attempts to regain momentum lost to Samsung and the Android ecosystem. Rumors are suggesting that Apple will be announcing a new “champagne gold” color iPhone 5S with white accents, while the iPhone 5C is expected to launch in a variety of colors similar to today’s iPod touch. iOS 7 is also a radical departure from previous versions of iOS, introducing a new “flat” design completely unlike anything seen on iOS in the past.
