Talking tech since 2003

As is the case with any business, converting customers into sales is the ultimate goal. Ensuring that your website is well-designed, has good SEO, and is being visited is just part of the equation for online success. It’s super important to take conversion rate optimization seriously.

Conversion rate optimization is a systematic process of increasing the percentage of your website’s visitors that take a desired action on a certain page such as buying an item or signing up for your email newsletter. In order to convert visitors, you need to optimize landing pages and the overall website using real-time analytics, tested design, and psychological elements. The infographic below created by WebsiteBuilder.org provides 46 excellent conversion rate optimization tips and tricks that you can learn from to improve your own site.

Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Keep your home page simple. I’ve always been a fan of simple home pages, they make navigating your content much easier for everyone.
  • Avoid having too many social share buttons. This is good advice, keep the essential ones (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and leave the rest out. Sometimes less choice is better.
  • If you run an e-commerce site, be sure to accept payments via PayPal (in addition to credit/debit cards)–it makes a huge difference. It turns out a lot of people like to pay using PayPal.
