Talking tech since 2003

If there’s one thing we can rely on in this world, it’s that it won’t be long before we hear one kind of rumor or another about Apple’s iPhone plans. Such is the case with the rumored iPhone 6s, as new reports out of the relatively unreliable DigiTimes say that 2015 will bring three new models of the iPhone. As ever, take this with a pinch of salt.

Will Apple revive the “C” variant for the iPhone 6?

According to the post published on Wednesday, Apple is looking to pump out the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which will apparently feature displays at roughly the same dimensions as the current iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models that were released last September. The iPhone 6C, meanwhile, will offer 4-inch display, which seems to reignite the old rumors that Apple is looking to revisit its shrunk down phone roots.

As we may recall, that rumor was unreliably sourced in the first place, and it was debunked just as unreliably a few weeks later.

That initial post offers up a few other supposed details, too. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Will rely on the A9 chip, while the 6C will apparently use the A8. All of them will have NFC (for Apple Pay, natch), and the now requisite fingerprint scanners. Aside from that, though, there aren’t too many pieces of evidence to support that this is actually happening.

On the other hand, we know for a fact that Apple loves to revisit and redesign its successful iPhones. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were pretty big departures for Apple (comparatively speaking), and as such, they may be looking to milk the 6 for variations for all its worth before graduating consumers to the iPhone 7.

Moreover, Apple has typically made smaller devices as a matter of course. A 4-inch iPhone 6 option makes a lot of sense, if for no other reason than to continue along that path and offer another choice to users turned off by the larger iPhone 6es. As ever, we won’t know much until Apple lets us know…but WWDC is coming up in just a few short months.
