Talking tech since 2003

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which feature displays measuring at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively. These are the biggest iPhones Apple has made yet, and their design seems to conform to all the leaks we’ve seen thus far. Pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus begin on Friday, September 12, and they’ll both be released on September 19 in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan.

The iPhone 6 has a resolution of 1334 x 750, providing 720p Retina HD visuals, while the iPhone 6 Plus is 1080 x 401, resulting in full 1080p HD. These are also the thinnest iPhones yet, with the 6 clocking in at 6.9 millimeters, and the 6 Plus measuring only 7.1 millimeters, while the iPhone 5s is comparatively huge at 7.6 mm. Interestingly, the iPhone 6 Plus also has a landscape view, meaning that users will have some more viewing options when using the Plus, so it’ll be interesting to see how developers take advantage of that.

Apple also announced that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will feature faster Wi-Fi connectivity, and will eventually allow for VoLTE service, which stands for “voice-over-LTE.” That feature will supposedly result in clearer, crisper voice calls.

In terms of pricing, Apple is releasing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in three configurations: 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB. The iPhone 6’s three configs are priced (with a two year contract) at $199, $299, and $399, while the same configurations for the iPhone 6 Plus are each a hundred dollars more. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5s will cost $99 with the purchase of a two year contract, while the 5C will be free. This is great news for anyone hoping to jump into the iPhone world without paying a premium.
