Motorola, owned by Google, has just released its brand new full-page ad that it will have printed in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and USA Today in the July 3 editions (tomorrow).  The ad starts off trumpeting the fact this will be the first smartphone designed, engineered, and assembled in the USA.  It then begins to celebrate the U.S. and Independence Day (July 4).  After getting you in the spirit, the ad intrigues you with the following copy: “The first smartphone that you can design yourself,” the copy then goes on to say, “Because today you should have the freedom to design things in your life to be as unique as you are.”

The ad goes on and makes more bold promises about how exciting this new smartphone [The Moto X] will be.  You can see it for yourself below.

While I applaud Motorola for this daring and gutsy ad, I just hope they deliver on this hype.  Because right now, it’s all hype.  Motorola has yet to be a major player in the smartphone space, its really been all Samsung and Apple, so for them to come out tooting their own horn and playing this up, it has to be good — no, it has to be amazingly mind blowing.

There haven’t been any details in terms of what exactly will be able to be personalized on the Moto X, but I’m really hoping it’s more than just a personalized skin that they will be offering.  Will they deliver?  I guess we’ll see soon enough.

On a side note, our own Shawn Farner, brought up an interesting observation: do the people in the ad mean anything?  If you look at their positioning one is shaped like an X and the other like a I, perhaps roman numerals: XI?  Which would translate into the number 11, could we expect to see the Moto X in November of this year?  You know, right in time for the holiday season?  Or maybe 11 types of configurations?  Anything is entirely possible at this point, we’ll keep you posted.
