Talking tech since 2003

We all have moments of downtime during the day. Some of us fill those idle minutes by browsing our social media sites. Others might pick up a book. But if you’re looking for a truly fun activity to squeeze into a break at work or at school, there’s nothing that can get the job done like a game.

We’ve put together a list of quick online games you can play while you’re taking a breather. Most are easy to understand and don’t take too long to wrap up — perfect for those who only have a few minutes to spare.

DICEWARS

Are you a fan of strategy games like Risk? DICEWARS is a Risk-like, cramming similar elements into a game that takes a lot less time to complete. In under ten minutes, it’s possible you’ll have finished up entirely, which means you could potentially crunch two rounds into your break period.

The Floor is Lava!

Here’s a game with a simple premise that can last as long as you want it to. The object of the game is simple — keep your circle from falling into the lava below. The catch? You have to platform from one safe place to another to stay alive, all the while avoiding other real-life players who are playing the game. If someone else bumps into you, they could very well send you into the lava below, melting your shot at winning the game. But hey — you can also bump other players and send them falling to their doom. You can either play it safe or get aggressive. How will you play?

GeoGuessr

Here’s a game that appears to make use of the Google Maps API to test your knowledge of geography. GeoGuessr pulls a Google Street View photo of a location and challenges you to guess the location in the picture. It’s a pretty neat idea that uses already-existing data, and it’s one that you can pick up and put down at your leisure.

Swag Bingo

You could spend all day searching popular bingo sites for fun, or you can visit one that not only has bingo, but a whole slew of other game options for you to choose from. Swag Bingo is best known for its bingo, but if you got trounced at the senior center the other night and bingo is a sore subject, there are original games like Starburst, Scruffy Duck, Dazzle Me, and more. And the best part? If you’re feeling up to it, you can put a little money on the line and make things more interesting.

Do you have some favorite online games you’d like to share? We’d love to hear about them!
