The Samsung Edge: Feature of the Future or Unnecessary Gimmick?

There has been a lot of talk surrounding Samsung’s latest Galaxy phones. While the Galaxy S6 has been widely praised by industry reviewers, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is more of a lightning rod. In most practical ways, these phones are the same. The Edge simply includes an extra tiny screen by using a curved glass front that extends down one side of the phone. The aesthetic is striking, but since there isn’t room to display much, many consider it to be mostly a novelty.

Still, the Edge was popular enough among early [...]

Waterproof Galaxy S6 Active Spotted

It seems that Samsung has a more durable version of its popular Galaxy S6 handset in the works, as a leaked image of a “Galaxy S6 Active” appeared on the web on Tuesday. Leaked to GSMArena, the image shows a rugged device stamped with the AT&T logo and the name of the device on the back—and it could be just the phone for folks who want a high-end handset without the fear of it shattering into a million pieces:

This appears to be the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, a waterproof, ruggedly [...]

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Unboxing Commercials Are Awesome (Despite Being Unlikely)

We all know about unboxing videos, you know, those videos popularized by YouTubers who record the unboxing of a brand new product like a smartphone, computer, etc. Samsung decided to take the unboxing video idea and turn it into a series of commercials. The only difference between these commercials and typical YouTube unboxing videos is that these are action-packed.

As many of you know I’m a huge Apple fan, but I will be the first to admit that the commercials, which I’ve embedded below, are pretty awesome. My [...]

Demand for Galaxy S6 Higher Than Predicted

If you’ve had the chance to glimpse a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in person, you might not be surprised to learn that demand for the thing is much higher than anyone expected. In fact, both versions of the device are in much higher demand than Samsung had planned for, meaning that if you had the money to shell out for a Galaxy S6, you might wind up waiting a bit before you get one.

The Galaxy S6 Edge is a really nice phone.

The news comes by way of a post on Reuters Wednesday, which quotes Samsung as [...]

Let’s not beat the dead horse that is the Apple Watch. Yes, we saw it last week. Yes, Apple spent a fair amount of stage time talking about it. But did Apple tell us anything we didn’t already know? Not really.

Apple did make news in other areas, though, as did a few other companies this past week. Let’s find out why.

Newest Samsung Flagship Sees 20M Pre-Orders

That’s certainly a step in the right direction: a report in the Korea Times today (via Neowin) says that Samsung’s latest flagship handset, the Galaxy S6, has received over 20 million pre-orders just a week after its unveiling at MWC in Barcelona. Apparently this number of pre-orders is a milestone for Samsung.

A “top executive” from a “leading mobile carrier in Europe” told the Times that “Samsung received some 20 million pre-orders for the S6 and S6 Edge – 15 million of S6 and five million of S6 Edge from mobile carriers [...]
