Talking tech since 2003

When it comes to predicting the future of our gadgets, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is usually one to watch, since his predictions tend to come true—or pretty close to it. For weeks, he’s been making predictions about Apple’s efforts to make a new version of the iPhone 6, casually referred to as the iPhone 6s, and Tuesday is no different.

The new iPhone 6s might continue with Apple’s trend of gold obsession.

According to Kuo, as reported by a post on AppleInsider, the new iPhone 6s will offer up some new and improved internal specifications over the standard iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets. While the current iPhone 6 boasts 1GB of RAM, the new version expected to be announced later this year will double that, and will also include a 12 megapixel rear camera, a solid improvement over the current version’s 8MP shooter.

Additionally, Kuo also says that the new versions of the iPhone 6 will come in rose gold cases, though it’s not entirely clear whether or not Apple would merely offer up a rose gold color or actually provide gold cases for the device. Considering the Apple Watch Edition boasts a gold case and a $10,000 starting price tag, Apple is definitely not afraid of adding luxury materials to its premium devices. Kuo also says the iPhone 6s could also see sapphire displays, which—you may remember—were supposed to come standard on the iPhone 6 last year until production issues scrapped those plans.

As ever, take these rumors with a big ol’ grain of salt. We won’t know anything for sure until Apple actually makes an announcement. Chances are good, however, that we’ll get a revamped iPhone in some form or another before the end of the year, so start saving your pennies now. These will be the greatest iPhones ever made—until the next ones come out, at least.
