Not many people are going to buy the Gear VR headset from Samsung – though that prediction is based entirely on statistics rather than any comment about the headset’s quality or viability. Because you need a Galaxy Note 4 phablet to make the thing work, it’s necessarily going to sell to fewer people than many other consumer gadgets. That said, if you happen to be one of the people who did plunk down the money for the Gear VR, there’s some exclusive musical content coming your way, courtesy of Coldplay.

According to a post on Coldplay’s official website, the band teamed up with a company called NextVR, which shot one of their London concerts to be watched via a virtual reality headset – specifically targeted, it seems, to the Gear VR. The content being released on the NextVR app is called “Coldplay’s Ghost Stories Virtual Reality Concert Experience,” which is a mouthful, but there you go.

Said Coldplay creative director Phil Harvey:

“You’re literally inside the show, front of stage with the band.  The quality of this virtual reality experience is far superior to anything else out there. It’s pretty mind-blowing.”

It sounds interesting, and I can’t deny that I’m a little curious about what watching a concert in virtual reality might be like. The downside, of course, is that this is Coldplay, and really, being more immersed in this band sounds like a bug rather than a feature.
