Talking tech since 2003

After launching on iOS earlier this month, the Watch ABC app has officially launched on the Amazon Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD.  The Watch ABC app allows users to watch live TV as well as on demand content from ABC, including content from ESPN and Disney.  Unfortunately, as with the iOS version of the app, live TV is currently limited to certain markets (New York City and Philadelphia) and it requires that you have an existing cable subscription.

As we mentioned during the launch of Watch ABC for iOS, ABC is working to ink deals with affiliate stations right now and have signed an agreement to launch the app in Hearst Television’s 13 ABC station markets, which include Boston and Kansas City.  The company also plans to negotiate more affiliate deals by the fall TV season.

Additionally, it’s expected that the Watch ABC “Live TV” feature will launch soon in six other ABC-owned station markets including Los Angeles and Chicago.  As for a nationwide roll-out — that will take time.

Despite being launched on the Kindle Fire line of products, the Watch ABC app is not yet available for Android.  However, the company did say they are planning to release a version that runs on Samsung Galaxy products this summer.  So stay tuned!

You can download Watch ABC for your Kindle Fire from the Amazon App Store.
