Talking tech since 2003

This is a question I’ve been wondering about for quite some time. In a new interview by The Verge’s Chris Welch, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri explained why we haven’t seen one yet.

According to Mosseri, the company “would like to build an iPad app” for Instagram, “But we only have so many people, and lots to do, and it hasn’t bubbled up as the next best thing to do yet.”

This seems like a bunch of hooey. The app is one of Facebook’s most profitable divisions and has scores of people working on it. In my opinion, the lack of an Instagram iPad app likely has more to do with the last part of Mosseri’s comment regarding the fact it hasn’t “bubbled up as the next best thing to do yet.” And why hasn’t it “bubbled up” as the next best thing to do? I’ll give you two reasons: money and user engagement. Instagram wants people to share photos on its platform to drive user engagement — and when was the last time you took a photo on your iPad? Right, like never.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for the Instagram iPad app (at least not anytime soon).

What do you think? Would you like to see an Instagram iPad app? Let us know.
