How To: Build and Maintain an Audience

When I left the Audience Conference on Saturday evening, I felt I had learned something.  Truly learned something new.  I cannot say the same is true for every conference I attend unfortunately.  Often times when I leave a conference, I either haven’t learned anything (but I still typically meet some interesting and great people) or I have just had ideas or things I’ve known reinforced.  To me, that isn’t beneficial.  I’m going to outline some key ideas and advice that I was able to take away from the conference with the hope it can help you build and maintain an audience as well.

Be passionate.  This is something I have always said as well.  If you are passionate about what you do, people will take note.  Of course, being passionate and having knowledge on the particular subject can go a very long way.  It’s also worth mentioning that if you are passionate about what you are doing, you will continue to do it even if no one is reading, listening to, or watching you; because it’s something you enjoy.  That’s important.

I’ll Be Attending The Audience Conference 2010

August 14th, 2010.  Mark it on your calendars.  It’s The Audience Conference.  A conference held by 1938media in conjunction with the Affiliate Summit.  I think the name of the conference says it all.  If you have to ask what this conference is about that’s where I’d point you.  In the age of the Internet and digital and social media, I cannot stress how important it is to engage your audience.  So I hope to learn a lot from the speakers this year.  Who is speaking you ask?  It is quite the impressive list.

I’ll run off a few names for you, Chris Brogan – social media extraordinaire, Chris Pearson – Thesis developer (the framework that BestTechie runs on), Jason Calacanis – Mahalo CEO, Brian Alvey – Co-founded Weblogs, Inc. and creator of Blogsmith, Dan Patterson – The guy in charge of digital platform development at ABC News Radio, and that is just a few of the many great speakers that will be there.  I’m excited to learn new things so I can continually improve my relationship with you guys (my audience).  Of course, if you want to see something here or want to be involved you can always email me and I’ll see what I can do for you.
