Talking tech since 2003

Well, its officially happened.  Facebook has broken the Internet.  Earlier this evening many websites like NBCNews.com, Yelp, CNN, and Buzzfeed all sent users to a Facebook redirect page almost immediately upon loading.  Early indicators, such as the Facebook redirect page, seem to suggest that the error came from Facebook Connect, the platform that is responsible for Facebook integration throughout the Internet.

As of 7:45 pm EST, the issues seem to have been resolved, with the sites that were affected now loading normally.  So if you noticed a site you visit redirecting you back to Facebook, this is why.  We expect that Facebook will have a statement soon, we’ll update the article once we get it.

You can watch the video above of the problem in action (courtesy of AllThingsD).

Update: A Facebook spokesperson told AllThingsD the following: “For a short period of time, there was a bug that redirected people logging in with Facebook from third party sites to Facebook.com. The issue was quickly resolved, and Login with Facebook is now working as usual.”
