Talking tech since 2003

Data, metrics, business intelligence — those are three key things that have impacted decisions made by businesses, and these days companies have so much more data at their fingertips than ever before.  How are they supposed to sift through all this information and make sense of it?  If you ask Quinton Alsbury, he will tell you that you should be using his product, Roambi, to make sense of it all.

roambi-data-2If you decided to take him at his word and jump into using Roambi you would at the very least be in good company.  The company is six years old and has all kinds of customers, including Fortune 500 companies and small businesses using the Roambi Analytics app to take a deep dive into their data.  When Steve Jobs announced the iPhone back in 2007, Mr. Alsbury, who is now President of Product Innovation at Roambi, knew this would be a huge opportunity, even before the original iOS SDK was released.  He and his team spent a year and half developing the first version of Roambi and have now been selling it for over five years.

The area where Roambi excels is in data visualization.  It takes all of your data and turns it into stunning visuals that not only look great, but are also easier to read and understand than straight numbers.  Roambi lets you import data from a number of sources including spreadsheets, databases, CRM’s, and more.  There are obvious benefits to using a database or CRM over a spreadsheet, the most obvious being that Roambi will always have the most current data.  Once implemented, the data is always just a few taps away at all times, so you can make informed decisions all the time.

Why would you use Roambi?

Roambi is a super flexible business app, with multiple views/templates for different kinds of analysis, you can easily keep track of all kinds of things.  For example, retailers would likely be able to track overall sales, per store sales, damaged/stolen goods, etc.  Media companies could keep track of traffic statistics, advertiser revenue, subscribers, and all kinds of other things.  The possibilities are pretty much limitless.

roambi-data-1Recently, Roambi went through a serious redesign of its app.  When Apple announced iOS 7 this past summer, the company took a step back to re-think how the app should look and function and it resulted in an even more stunning version of Roambi.  The new app removes all of the skueomorphism and goes for a much cleaner and flatter user interface.

When I sat down with Mr. Alsbury to take a look at the new version of Roambi Analytics, he gave me some more insight into what exactly went into the new version.  The first thing to remember is that this app is geared towards businesses, not consumers so making big changes willy-nilly is a big no-no.  First, they had to make sure the old version of the app was stable and robust on iOS 7, because as you know, not all businesses update their software right away.  They also knew they would have a significant portion of clients who would be using the new version of Roambi on iOS 6 so that was taken into account as well.

In addition to doing those things, Roambi also informed customers what was in the works so they wouldn’t be caught off-guard by the update.

You can download the latest version of Roambi (designed for iOS 7) in the App Store today. The app is free, however, a single user license will run you $99.
