Why You’re Not Gettin’ Any: Website Visitors

So you bought a domain, got yourself web hosting, and designed a website. Now you have a beautifully website, but you just can’t figure out why you’re not getting any visitors? Does this sound like you? Well, today BestTechie is starting a five-part article series entitled “Why You’re Not Gettin’ Any”. These articles, which will be posted one per day, will cover the reasons why businesses and blogs have lacking online presence, and what you can do to improve yours.

Getting visitors to your site is the first step in building a successful online presence. This being, visitors and users are the people who not only view your content, but share it with others as well. But without visitors, your website is pretty much a sitting duck. So how do you get visitors?

The first thing that you’re going to have to realize is that gaining an audience for your website takes a great deal of time and effort, and is not something that is going to happen overnight. Your audience is definitely going to need to start small, and at first will likely consist only of close friends. Once you share your website with your friends, they will likely keep up to date with it, and in turn share it with their friends. As this cycle continues, more and more people will gradually begin to visit your site. With higher numbers of users, you will likely gain better search engine rankings, and will see a higher number of users stumbling across your website while surfing the web.

Sounds like a great process, doesn’t it? While it definitely takes time, people will begin to find your site or blog. But this process won’t work if you neglect to keep your site or blog up to date, or if you fail to provide interesting content for your visitors. Having said this, you have to look at the sheer volume of blogs and websites that exist on the Internet. With millions upon millions of sites, there is sure to be someone else discussing the same topic as yourself. What differentiates your content from that of someone else? Discussion and analyzation. Sure, anyone can simply report the news, but taking it a step further and truly evaluating the importance of said news makes your content that much more interesting, and in turn should yield you higher numbers of subscribers and visitors.

Additionally, in order to maintain a steady flow of visitors to your site, you must maintain a steady flow of content. People are not going to visit websites or blogs that are infrequently updated and only contain old news. In order to be successful online, you must set aside time to devote to and bettering your content in order to please your visitors.

For a blog, you will need to do regular posts about your subject or life, and should try and include a mix of fact, analyzation, and opinion. On the other hand, the website for a business should have regular updates in regards to new products, promotions, awards, etc.

All in all, getting visitors to your website will involve a great deal of effort in creating quality content and gradually building your audience. But in the long run, the effort you put in has the potential to pay off big time.
