Valve's Steam Machines Gaming PCs for the Living Room Delayed Until 2015

Video game company and Steam creator Valve Software has delayed the launch of its Steam Machines program to 2015. Initially set to release this year, the company’s gaming PCs for the living room will now be available as early as next year.

Valve made the announcement in an unconventional way (well, not for them), by taking to the Steam Universe forums and popping a “when it’s done” placeholder sticker for the release of Steam Machines. Now, it’s specifically slated for “a release window of 2015, not 2014.”

“Obviously we’re just as eager as you are to get a Steam Machine in your hands,” mentions the post.

“But our number one priority is making sure that when you do, you’ll be getting the best gaming experience possible. We hope you’ll be patient with us while we get there. Until then, we’ll continue to post updates as we have more stories to share. “

This was the first update to the forum since March, which was related to the revamped Steam Controller redesign. This update, incidentally, did cover updates for the controller project, citing “live playtests” of the current wireless iteration. Valve is “pretty busy making all those improvements,” they say.

The image attached to this article was also included in the update, and showcases a busy sketch of the Steam Controller in its current form.

Valve previously planned to release its living room-friendly gaming PCs as early as this summer, and partnering with over 14 computing companies to make as many unique machines. SteamOS has been available in alpha and beta incarnations for several months now – and we’ve had plenty of early hands-on time. And since Valve recently made in-home streaming available to everyone, nothing is stopping you from building your own machine and installing SteamOS yourself.

We’ve reached out to Valve for comment, and will update this post when we hear back.
