Skype for Android Gets A Major Redesign As the App Surpasses 100 Million Users

Microsoft has been using its acquisition of Skype to their advantage recently.  From implementing it by default in Windows 8.1 to now the latest Skype for Android 4.0 update which features a major redesign that takes a page out of the design book for Windows Phone 8 and offers the app a metro look that looks very familiar.

Microsoft says the new design’s intent is to put “conversations first,” and focused on having everything at the user’s fingertips. Opening the app will reveal a list of your latest conversations, where you can then interact with them further. Tapping on contacts will open new conversation windows along with video or voice call options.

The company said that they “rebuilt it from the ground up to be faster and more reliable.”

Skype also announced that it has surpassed 100 million installs on Android, which also appears to a major motivation behind the update.  So far, most of the feedback about the new design appears to be positive in the Google Play store, however, people are citing issues about not being able to log off, which I’m sure will be resolved shortly.
