Samsung Will Let Americans Buy the Galaxy Tab 4 Lineup on May 1st

Samsung hasn’t exactly been pushing their new Galaxy Tab 4 lineup quite as hard this year, even going so far as to quietly announce the new family of tablets under the radar on April 1st, like some sort of shy April Fool’s joke. But it looks like Samsung is ready to take things just a little bit more seriously, as the company has officially announced that all WiFi variants of the Galaxy Tab 4 lineup – which includes the Tab 4 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1 – will be up for sale in the United States starting May 1st.

These tablets comes not long after the company’s bigger launch of the Galaxy Tab Pro and the Galaxy Note Pro tablets, both of which were originally unveiled at CES this January. While Samsung will tell you that their “Pro” tablets are for getting work done, the Galaxy Tab 4 aims to fill the more media oriented tablet niche, with some great prices to boot. The Tab 4 7.0 will launch for just $200 (that’s cheaper than LG’s equivalent, the Nexus 7), the Tab 4 8.0 for $270, and the Tab 4 10.1 for $350.

All three new tablets come with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, a 1280 x 800 display resolution, a 3 MP camera, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory (with the Tab 4 7.0 also coming in an 8 GB version). These definitely aren’t industry powerhouses, but in a world where Apple still sells the original iPad mini with an A5 processor and 512 MB of RAM, we’d say there’s still plenty of room in the market for specifications that are simply average. No word yet on when exactly the 3G/LTE versions of the Tab 4 lineup will be coming, but this Summer seems to be a better bet right now.
