Samsung breathes new life into the flip phone with the Galaxy Golden

Back in the mid 2000s, prior to the iPhone-lead smartphone revolution, flip phones were absolutely all the rage. I remember when I thought I was the coolest kid in school because I had what was then a brand new black Motorola RAZR v3; not just a flip phone, but an awesome flip phone. Then came the candybar-styled smartphones, and the flip phone crawled back into obscurity, “in style” no more… until now. Samsung’s betting that there’s still a market for the flip phone with their new Galaxy Golden smartphone, and let me tell you, this is far from my old RAZR.

Featuring a unique dual-screen design, the Galaxy Golden comes with not one, but two 3.7″ Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen displays – one on the outside of the phone, and one on the inside. We’ve also got the usual array of modern smartphone capabilities, including Android 4.2.2, an 8MP rear camera, a front facing camera, a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, and the standard array of TouchWiz tweaks and enhancements that usually accompany high end Galaxy S devices.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to make your way over to Korea if you want to enter the new golden age of flip phones; the Galaxy Golden has only been announced for the Korean market, and it’ll cost you 790,000 won (that’s just over $700) for the privilege. But hey, we have a feeling that if this sort of device really interests you enough to want to go ahead and get one, a plane ticket and a price tag won’t be too much of a deterrent.
