Reports Suggest iPad Pro with Larger Screen Coming in Early 2014

Hot on the heels of the recent release of both the iPad Air and the iPad Mini with Retina Display, reports are swirling around the web claiming that 12.9-inch Retina display-sporting iPads are in production for release next year.

The report comes from The Korea Times, and has not been commented on or responded to by Apple, as expected. If true though, this new iPad would release early next year as a sibling to the 9.8-inch iPad Air and the 7.9-inch iPad Mini. But what might they call it?

Perhaps they’ll name it iPad Pro, like we suggested a few weeks ago. It would fit with the other naming conventions they’ve followed with their Macintosh line.

This new report seems in-line with a previous report from The Wall Street Journal, who claimed that Apple is manufacturing an ever newer iPad that has a screen size of “slightly less than 13 inches.” That report is also still unconfirmed, and as it stands, a rumor.

The report also claims that the new iPad would have an even more impressive screen than contemporary iPads, which seems like quite a leap given Apple’s persistent push to market the still-pretty-new Retina display technology.

But as the report implies:

“As the Apple partner intends to boost its lineup for displays that have almost ultra high-definition (UHD) quality, the upcoming iPad will provide very clear quality similar to that of UHD.”

And that’s the way the Apple cookie crumbles. Whether or not you believe it, and whether or not the rumors add up to anything substantial, we’ve got something interesting to speculate over until “early next year.”
