OpenDNS Sales Double As Umbrella Takes Off

OpenDNS started out small but it’s growing at a rapid pace.  The company, which provides DNS service for consumers and enterprise customers, said its enterprise sales doubled in 2012 for a third straight year as it added more businesses, renewals and launched its new cloud-based security service, Umbrella.

The company said it added 3,500 new businesses and said that more than 90 percent of its existing customers renewed for another year.  OpenDNS said it saw big growth in Umbrella, which it launched in November 2012, although it didn’t specify numbers.

“We credit much of the growth to Umbrella, our new line of business services that fills an emerging and growing gap in Internet security by securing both networks and users, wherever they are in the world.”

Umbrella is the company’s cloud-delivered security service, which secures enterprise users from malware, botnets and phishing on PCs, laptops, and iOS devices.  OpenDNS also added more products to its line up and said it shipped Umbrella Insights, Umbrella Mobility and Umbrella Everywhere.

OpenDNS grew its staff by nearly 60 percent in 2012, opened an office in Vancouver, and moved to a new headquarters in SOMA San Francisco.  The company also said it plans to expand later this year to double the office space to make room for another 100+ employees.   Yes, it is currently hiring!
