It’s 2019 and if you’re single and in the dating scene, you’ve likely used apps like Tinder, Bumble, or OkCupid to seek out true love. A recent survey of 2,000 people has compiled some interesting data points relating to how much research and Googling goes on prior to a first date. You can check out the infographic below to see the full findings. Here’s some of my favorites:

  • 88% admit to having done some degree of research on their potential date beforehand
  • 76% spend 15 minutes or more on research, per person
  • 63% wouldn’t be embarrassed if their date found out about their research
  • 70% are most eager to seek out additional photos and/or videos
  • Two-thirds say they go “most” or “all the way” back in a person’s social media profile
  • 40% have backed out of a date because of something they found researching online
  • 61% admit to fantasizing about future dates before meeting them

To be fair, these days, it makes complete and total sense that people would do some research on the person they’re about to go on a date with. The information is readily available and it can tell you a lot about the person–so why not?
