Leaked photos reveal new BlackBerry Bold 9270, runs BlackBerry OS 7

If you’re BlackBerry and you’re quickly losing marketshare to competitors left and right, what do you do? Well, if you’re BlackBerry, the answer is that you try to capture the ultra-low end with an inexpensive smartphone running yesteryear’s technologies, apparently. Leaked shots revealed by ThaiBBClub have captured an as of yet unreleased low-end QWERTY smartphone known as the BlackBerry Bold 9270, complete with evaluation unit and not for sale warnings usually found on these sorts of prototype devices.

What makes this phone most interesting, however, is what it runs – unlike BlackBerry’s other recent offerings such as the BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q10, and BlackBerry Q5, all of which run BlackBerry’s new BlackBerry 10 operating system, the Bold 9270 is burdened with yesteryear’s operating system; BlackBerry OS 7, which hasn’t been seen on a new BlackBerry phone in over six months.

Aside from the outdated operating system, we’re looking at a perfectly competent, if not boring low end BlackBerry device – a four row portrait QWERTY keyboard, a cheap looking but not hideous striped finish similar to what BlackBerry has done in the past, apparent rear and front facing cameras, and a row of hardware system buttons.

No word yet on when you’ll be able to get your hand on one of these bad boys, but we can imagine it won’t be enjoying the type of hype that the phone’s recent siblings have been seeing as of late.
