The king of hackathons is back for Miami Hack Week

Happy Friday! Just across the Shrimp wire, Chris Daniels announced that the king of hackathons, Dave Fontenot, is back and bringing the heat with Miami Hack Week. Starting August 1 through August 8, groups of hackers will be joining forces in hacker houses across Miami with 5, 10, 20 engineers all living together. Dave's goal? To bring 5,000 engineers to Miami. And if anyone can do it, it's him.

I know, how freakin' incredible! I can't wait to see what gets built.

Oh, and how could I forget? There's prize money too.

How do you get involved in Miami Hack Week?

  • Sign up for updates at www.MiamiHackWeek.com
  • Mark your calendar for Miami Hack Week Aug. 1st - Aug. 8th
  • Find a hacker house (rented or borrowed) for 5 to 10 engineers for the week.
  • Gather your team of both local and non-local engineers so we can show them what Miami is all about.
  • Start planning cool events for that week – my goal is to work closely with Dave and Shrimp Society on this too.

If you think hackathons aren't for you (hint: they are) or want to learn more about Dave, I'd encourage you to watch this Tedx talk he gave, it really encapsulates him and his philosophy towards hackathons:

This is the last time I want to hear there's no engineering talent in Miami! Let's go!

Stay tuned for more details!

I also want to take a moment to recognize the ongoing tragedy that's happening in Surfside, Florida. My thoughts and prayers are going out to everyone affected. If I can be of any help to anyone, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Additionally, The Miami Foundation, Coral Gables Community Fund, and Key Biscayne Community Fund have launched a hardship fund to raise money for those affected by the tragedy. Please donate if you can - the money will be going directly to food, water, and shelter for those affected.
