HTC-Made Nexus Tablet to get Workshop Keyboard Case

More and more evidence seems to be mounting that HTC is the company behind Google’s next Nexus tablet, the Nexus 9, which will be unveiled within the next few months. Interestingly, new reports claim that the tablet will be getting a slick keyboard case that will allow the Nexus to compete in the realm of productivity tabs – possibly giving Apple’s iPad a run for its money.

According to AndroidPolice, the “Workshop” cover (an alleged drawing of which is pictured on the right) will be a mix between the iPad’s segmented magnet case – which acts as a stand by folding into a triangle – and the Surface Type Cover. The post claims that the keyboard will measure “approximately 228 x 320 x 5 mm, making it a very thin keyboard.” The tablet will “nest into the case on top of the keyboard” when users aren’t typing, and the magnets will also automatically wake or lock the screen, just like the current crop of magnetic cover cases.

The Workshop case will connect to the Nexus via Bluetooth 4.0 and an embedded NFC chip, which altogether should make the pairing process relatively painless. If the Workshop is as good as it sounds, the Nexus 9 might end up offering Android fans a nice alternative to the iPad and the Surface line of tablets.

The Surface Pro line is, of course, very high end, with a price point to match – unless you go with the Windows RT version of the Surface, which doesn’t provide users with the full functionality of Windows or even that of Windows Phone. Meanwhile, if you’re an Android user, using an iPad is probably not too attractive, both due to the differences between Google’s mobile OS and iOS, as well as Apple’s premium price for the tablet.

Hopefully we’ll hear more about HTC’s new Nexus tablet before too long. The holidays are just around the corner, and I’m sure there are more than a few Android fans who would love to get their hands on a new Nexus along with the great looking Workshop keyboard case.
