Grand Theft Auto 5 for Xbox One, PS4, PC is Indeed Coming This Fall

The rumor mill disappointed some fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise recently, as word got around that the next-generation version of GTA 5 might be delayed.

Thankfully, that won’t be the case.

According to a message from a Rockstar customer support rep, Grand Theft Auto 5 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC is still on track for a fall 2014 release. The rep responded to a fan who had heard the rumors of a possible delay, stating that the “release date has not changed.”

Not that we have a solid date from Rockstar just yet. But from the way the rep phrased his or her answer, it sounds like Rockstar definitely has an exact date in mind and that the company plans on sticking to it.

A delay wouldn’t have been a big shocker, as this coming fall season is loaded with major game releases. Destiny, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Halo: Master Chief Collection, Far Cry 4, and LittleBigPlanet 3 are just a few examples. Some games, like Battlefield: Hardline and Batman: Arkham Knight, have left the fall release window voluntarily, and I wouldn’t have blamed Rockstar for doing the same with GTA 5.

Then again, the Grand Theft Auto games are notoriously reliable sellers. Why should Rockstar be afraid?

If I had to bet, I’d say that GTA 5 is getting an October 14 release. That would put it alongside another remake: Sleeping Dogs. It would also cushion the game from Destiny in September and the tag team of Assassin’s Creed Unity and Halo: Master Chief Collection in November.

But we’ll see. Maybe Rockstar will surprise us with an even earlier release date.

What do you think of Grand Theft Auto 5 for the next-gen consoles and PC? Do you plan on picking it up, even if you might have played it on a last-gen system? Leave your thoughts below.
