Google News & Weather App Lands on iOS

Google is a unique company in that it actively develops and promotes a mobile operating system, yet also develops for competing platforms. Google apps are plentiful on iOS, and today, Apple’s OS received yet another Google app in the form of News & Weather, which was previously an Android exclusive.

The Google News website is a great source of news from a multitude of sources, and the News & Weather app is no different. The app pulls from 65,000 sources, winnowing those down into topic areas for those who want more a more focused news experience. If you want the skinny on local news, you can get that, too.

And let’s not forget weather. That section of the app shows the current condition and also offers forecast data four days out into the future. You can get similar information by opening up the native iOS weather app, but perhaps some prefer Google’s weather data over the Weather Channel data Apple is now using.

I’m never opposed to Google bringing more of its products to iOS, so I’m happy to see News & Weather on the platform. Those who want a quick update on what’s going on in the world, as well as what’s happening in the sky, will likely find News & Weather a useful download — especially if those users go heavy on the Google.

Those of you who don’t really care where you get your news and weather? You can probably give Google’s News & Weather app a pass.

The download is available now for iOS. If you install it on your iDevice, leave us a comment below and let us know what you think.
