I've been having problems with the "save as" feature on my windoze xp 'puters.

While trying to save certain web pages in either ".htm, .html" or ".mht" it stops at 30% and gives me an error message: "cannot save to this location". I can, however save as a .txt file.

Here's a site that it just happened on.

Is this a website issue or a Windows issue?

All replies appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

I am not sure why, but using IE6, I get the same error you get. It does not seem to be a problem with your computer. As a work around firefox is able to save it without a problem.

ditto in Firefox fine, but in IE no go.

One of the many reasons everyone needs Firefox. My bro on his mac the other night couldn't get this one website on safari his wife needed for school, but I told him to download the latest version FF and Voila it worked. Firefox Saves the Day!

I have IE 6.

I couldn't save as webpage complete either.

I could make it available offline though.

I assume that is what you wanted to do.

One way was to view source & save the code.

I checked All Files & added .html to the file instead of .txt.

That worked.

Except while viewing it offline no links will work.

Then I added it to Favorites & right clicked the Favorites link & chose Make available offline.

In the Wizard there is the option to make the links on the page available offline too.

Doing that would probably use a lot of space on your computer.

Heh, well that's odd. If I try this with IE6, it saves perfectly fine. 100%. Does everyone have all the latest updates?

Yes. All the latest updates are installed.

I have to beleive that this is an IE security setting that I can't find. I also just tried disabling the Java JRE, but that doesn't help either.

Firefox, here I come!

Firefox once again proves it is superior in every way to IE.

OK. I installed Firefox.

I never bought into the whole idea about how evil IE was. I had FireFox before, but deleted it due to lack of use.

I never had any securuty issues with IE. I'm also very careful about using all the routine precautions.

Having said that, due to the problems I've been having with IE "save as", I'm now using FireFox as the default browser. And yes, save as worked like a charm with FF.

The other user on this computer is probaly still going to have to use IE, as she logs into a secure bank network while working from home and they only allow IE.

When I would "save as" in IE I would usually use .mht (save as single page). I noticed that FF doesn't offer that option. Do I just use .html only?

Tanks for all the help,

Joe
