Gale Force Winds

Recommended Posts

hi all there is a warning of a storm on the east coast

of northen, queensland, australia.

same force as katrinia

in the usa.

the difference is they have relocated many of the

towns and settlements.

before the storm hits the coast.

so katrina has made people aware of the dangers to life

and properties.

.i post this because i have a daughter in the area

tho she is 50 mls from the coast

with storms of this magnitude

you never know where it ends

so my sympathies goes to katrina victims

and hope this storm dosent lose lives

catigory 5 at the moment

and is expected to reach catigory 6

Hello Marty,

Hubby and I are both praying that no loss of life or property will happen to the people in the storm's path.

And especially that your daughter will be ok.

I just checked my wunderground weather for the storm map of Tropical Cyclone Larry that appears to be the one you are talking about. Looks pretty nasty. And also another Tropical Cyclone, Wati, that possibly could hit same area or lower down the coast right after Larry. That's not as strong though yet as Larry.

Here are the two Wunderground links.

Tropical Cyclone Larry

Tropical Cyclone Wati

Wherever these ferocious storms hit, it spells bad news for those affected, and yes we can understand how due to distance it is hard to visualize the awful force of the storm and the damage. But that is true here in the U.S. too with storms such as hurricanes or tornadoes, or earthquakes, or volcanoes, it is hard to grasp the extent of what happens unless you have gone through something similar.

Keep us posted Marty, as our news may not show much if anything about that cyclone.

Here is a hug for you.

Love Pat

God bless everyone

Hi Marty:

Hope your daughter will be OK. We will be thinking of you and your family. My prayers are with you my friend.

Like Liz says, hope the storm prediction is scarier than the actual storm. Sometimes at the last moment these storms can change course, take a left or right turn. Hopefully a turn will make a difference. I'm not familiar with your area for storms, so don't know if they can change course.

Take care

hi all. this storm

is apperently

the worst on record

250 ks winds.

for the area.

and thanks for your sympathetic

posts for my daughter

who is in my avatar

once i can get through

on the phone i can relax.

the irony of it all is

a few hundred miles to the south of the storm

the commonwealth olympics

are being staged

in melbourne

in some of the best weather on record.

like chalk and cheese

Did a Google search to see if I could find out more information on that cyclone.

Anyhow I found one site called World Weather Information Service.

World Weather Information Service

Which eventually led me to the Australian Government's Bureau of Meteorolgy, where I found this on Tropical Cyclone Larry. Looks like a bad one for sure.

BOM's tracking Tropical Cyclone Larry

This site shows a news item that the storm is decreasing in strength. But it pounded the affected areas with heavy rains.

Weather Zone news on TC Larry

I think I have caught some of Marty's worrying, ooops!

Pat

God bless everyone.

hi all i have now recieved

news from my daughter

her phone line was down for a day

but it now has been restored

and they are able to get through to familys

the area she is in. wasnt hit as hard as the coastal areas

tho comunications were down.

but her and my two grand daughters are safe and sound.

her and her husband grow crops called chokers

i think it is something like a squash or marrow

and that has been devastated.

so they will be on the dole [welfare ]

tho the goverment is compensating

any losses up to 50 oercent

but for me they are safe .

ide like to thank all the posters who shared my

worrys for my family

cyclone and hurricane are the same

depending on which country you come from

some like to categorise the difference

to make it sound more devestating

which ever one they both arnt very good for the nerves

Wonderful news, Marty! Crops can be re-grown, family can't. I imagine it was just about harvest time there, too, huh?

Saw footage of the storm on television--looked scary.

So happy they're safe and thank you for the update.

Liz

I am so glad Marty that your family is ok. Praise God.

Yes it is always hard to lose a crop, but that is small potatoes when it could have been so much worse.

In reading the article that Sethook linked to, it is amazing that no lives were lost. And that there were good plans in place to deal with something like that storm. Good to hear that lessons learned from Katrina helped the people in charge there to do better than happened here. I just hope our country gets it all figured out by the next hurricane season here.

Take care folks wherever you are, and always have backup supplies on hand for emergencies just in case.

Pat

God bless everyone.

Hey Marty, don't worry about how you post, just as long as you do. That is what is most important.

We are not grading you on your grammer and structure of a sentence. I'm just glad you and your family are safe and are able to give us the info.

Just keep doing it the way you have been. There is nothing wrong with the way you post.

People have to stop and think, that English may not be that person's primary language. I should be so lucky to be able to speak and understand more than one language. I do see on other boards, where some will critisize for various reasons. That tells me a lot about that person.

Well enough of that, off my soapbox. post-27-1142946140.gif

Marty, just keep us informed.
