Using Old Ram

Recommended Posts

I've already posted this elsewhere

I've finally saved up enough for a 3700+ and a MSI board. And I'm planning on buying pc 3200 when I get the money.

My question is can I use my old RAM (1GB of pc2700) and not lose that much in performance.

Socket 939 only supports pc3200.

Untrue.

Socket 939 systems will run PC2700, and will do it with relatively little loss of performance. Athlon 64s are not that picky about memory.

My socket 939 mobo would not run PC2700 ram.

Is it the one in your sig? What specific model is it?

2x256 sticks

The more likely problem is that your specific board didn't work with those specific sticks. Especially if they were the same make/model.
