Transparency In Browser...

Recommended Posts

I have an issue, i made a logo for my site that has a transparent background...

now in FF it looks great, but in IE it has a white background...

I used .png because it looked the best and supports transparency, i know .gif does too, but it looks awful with the shadow (it turns the shadow into bloches of black)...

the image is DWlogo.png (and the one in my sig...)

Is there a way to get this logo to have a transparent background in both IE and FF?

Any comments welcome... thanks in advance,

Drew

i thank you handplane, but i was hoping to keep the shadow and clean look...

i wonder if i were to just rename the file as a gif and see if that were to work... heh... probobly not :P

grr, ofcorse not... am i using the wrong format? does gimp suck? i know IE does... but i see other transparent images that work just fine in IE that look good...

EDIT:"i see the new version... although, to be honest, i do not like the style of the shadow...

its exactly the way i imagined it to turn out in FF, but in IE it just plain sucks... :(

i would'nt care, but not everyone uses FF..."

well what i have is the world: 1.png

that needs to go into an average sig sized area: 2.png

i scale the world down to 85 pix so it'll fit the logo size of 400 x 85...

then add text using 42px, monospace bold italic...

font color is:

h:199

s:99

v:60

r:1

g:103

b:152

html notation: 016798

then i find a drop shadow makes it look so much better...

i also have the forums logo that i am having trouble with...

This is one of (many) things most web designers hate about IE. It's all the worse since IE does support alpha, it just isn't "on" be default.

You can turn it on with some ActiveX and Javascript

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/

This does break other things though.

so i either have to change the logo, leave it and tell everyone how it can be viewed best, or just forget it... hehehe

EDIT: ok, i have been looking and am not finding where i can put the head tag in my forums... :/

this is a prime example to get back at all those websites that say:

This site is best viewed with Internet Explorer 6 or higher

Just use the logo and put:

This site is best viewed with Mozilla Firefox 1.07 or higher

maybe then people will realize how crappy of a browser IE really is lmao.

Yeah, its the love hate relationship all webdesigners have.

Now just making css work over 3 browsers, 3 different os's and multiple resoultions equals

3 browsers X 3 oses x 20 different resolutions x 10 different types of internet connections x 10 different versions of each browser = 18000 possible combinations you have to cater for

/me puts gun to head and squeezes trigger
