see

http://www.f-prot.com/support/unix/unix_ma...-prot.so.8.html

this is how I would do it..

go to http://www.f-prot.com/download/trial_forms/linux-ws-rpm.html

then from a shell

su -

rpm -ivh fprot*.rmp

done

are you shareing files with windows users? are you hosting a fileshare or email server.. if not you don't need a virus scanner.. there are 14 viruses at last count for linux and all require you to compile and install as root.. if you are having problems installing a tar ball them a virus will really be hard to install..

just a thought
