Which Computer Is Better Suited For The Long Run?

Recommended Posts

#1)

-AMD ATHLONâ„¢64 3000+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology

-ATI Radeon 9700 128MB Video

#2)

-Intel® Pentium® M Processor 755 w/ HT Technology 2.0GHz 400FSB 2MB Cache

-ATI Radeon 9700 256MB Video

The rest of computer specs are the same for both like

1024 MB PC3200 400MHz DDR MEMORY

80GB hard drive

8X DVD REWRITABLE DRIVE

etc.

So which computer would be better suited for playing FEAR and some future games to come out in the long run? [both are notebooks]

it's pretty much high video memory over CPU or CPU or video memory

(note i am aware that a desktop is better for the long run as well as there are options where I can get both, however I have my reasons please don't point me in another direction)

Seems like a toss up....You could probably flip a coin on this one and not lose too much either way

AMD would be the gamers choice for processor but higher RAM on the vid card would also be wanted.

I'd personally go with the AMD...you can always upgrade the vid card a couple years down the road.

Without much gaming experience, I'm probably not the most qualified person to respond though.

I'd get a few more opinions on it.

Well I replied to the sister thread at that "other place", but it was a bit buried. So here's what I really think.

It's a laptop, so get a Pentium M. That's the long and short of it.

The extra video memory will make little if any difference. If they have a similar model with a Penitum M and a 128 MB video card for less money (or a different, better chipset for the video card for the same money) then that is the route I would take.

Also, if you could post the links here too it would be helpful :)

If it weren't for the fact that they are laptops i'd sy #1, but since they are, #2 is a better choice.

BTW, both of those machines are going to be horrible gaming systems compared to a cheap desktop. I would never suggest buying a laptop to game on (think about how cramped the keyboardlayout is)
