Martint Posted August 16, 2005 Report Share Posted August 16, 2005 I moved my pc to my new house and now it doesnt work.when i repluged it, the num/caps/scroll lock lights flashed and thats it. using a ps/2 keyboard..tried e-machine and compaq keyboards and the same thing happened.on xp home sp2also tried a ps/2 to usb adaopter, same result as before. Motherboard begins Power On Self Test, cannot find processor, no way to do test, tells powersupply to power down. This happens a lot when people move and their PC gets jostled a bit. The weight of the heatsink / fan has caused the processor to pull loose of one or more pinholes in the socket. The simple solution is to unplug the PC and open the case, release the heatsink (noting which side goes where) and raise the zero insertion force locking lever on the socket.Gently press the outer edges (opposite sides at the same time) of the processor down. Re lock the ZIF lock lever, reattatch the heatsink (use new thermal compound if needed) and lock it down, connect the fan to the header on the motherboard and power up.
