The Ranting Game

Recommended Posts

alright i've been putting this one off for some time now for fears of it starting World War 3. but i think that our little community can handle it. hopefully (crosses fingers) it will actually help with the controlling of rants and flaming. not that we even have a problem with those at all. that's why i'm going to experiment with it here. i trust the people here unlike Leoville and G4. besides this might be fun.

OK here's how it works. you read the the last persons rant and try to continue it or at least rant in a new direction that's related. you are welcome to discuss in between rants or even comment. OK here's the first rant.

RANT

i was driving up in the richer side of town and i saw a ton of full size 4wd diesel trucks with lift kits and a bunch of fancy stuff bolted on. they all had nice paint jobs and there wasn't even a scratch on it, you could tell that these people never use it for hauling anything and actually use it as a daily driver. what a waste of a truck. call you even call that thing a truck if it never gets used as one? i met someone who has one of those and commutes about 50 miles to work every day. why???? his answer was that it made him feel safer.

END RANT

now the next person might rant about the price of gas or maybe those darn cars that have more TV screens than my house. rant about what ever you want. the point is to try and rant about things that others might also dislike or even think of as a waste. think of it as a large Word Association Thread with more content.

Woah! What about driving through the low rent side of town and seeing those Caddys and Cameros with $1200 worth of tires and rims? Not to mention the "THUMPA THUMPA" stereo systems? Makes me wonder if their kids are getting what they need. Or just who is making an insurance claim on their hard earned stereo... Can't figure out why someone chooses to pretty up a stupid car and live in a dump.

Waste of any kind!! When I worked at a department store, I became friends with the guy who took care of "defective items" (some were perfectly good items, just used, then returned or something really, really minor). The clothing went to Goodwill, but the shoes were sliced up and put in the dumpster. Never could figure that out, there are folks who would love to have a pair of decent shoes. Why not donate shoes somewhere? Germs? Spray 'em with Lysol!! Furniture was *gasp* thrown out!! ahem, I mean "written off". Did con them into a desk for daughter that fell off a truck and had one small nick out of it, but you wouldn't believe the negociating I had to do!!

A grocery store I used to work at sold roasted chickens. At the end of the night, they were thrown out. I inquired as to why they couldn't go to the Senior Center or a Food Pantry and was told the Health Dept wouldn't allow it. I took those chickens and made chicken salad and had the Deli sell it and it sold out every single day. At least the produce dept put old produce in it's "own special dumpster" for a local pig farmer.

People are living hand-to-mouth and companies are throwing perfectly good stuff away.

Ohh, blim. That is a pet peave of mine. Home Depot would throw *everything* into the compactor. Why? I asked? Because folks leave a mess outside when dumpster diving and some even return the stuff up front for money or a new product.

when i worked at Auto Zone it really bugged me, what people would try to return. this one lady brought her spark plugs in, they were in her boxes of a different brand. they had obviously been used and were in bad shape. i asked her how long she had them. she pulled out her maintenance manual and said 7,231 miles ago. WHAT!

another one was the guy who installed his own starter. it was one that used shims (thin spacer plates between the starter and engine block), he didn't use them so it made a grinding noise when ever he started the engine. but hey why find out what wrong when you can just drive it like that for a month. then the starter fell out, so i guess he didn't use thread locker like the repair manual said. new car, old car guy that won't read manuals. the funny part was that he didn't hear the noise of the dragging starter on the highway for a while. when he brought it in he claimed that it must've been a defective part. the mounts on the starter where still in good shape, but it was very badly scratched on the back side from dangling by the wires. i had argued with the guy when he bought the starter that he had to use lock tight compound because of the type of metal that the manufacture used. it even says so in the repair manual in big bold type. anyways he argued with me, the manager, the district manager until the district manager caved in just to shut him up.

The customer is always right! Heh heh

Home Depot has a "no questions asked", return policy. Except for custom mixed paint. Ha! Very early one Sunday, this lady comes in with 10 gals. of our most expensive Ralph Lauren paint. Said it was the wrong color for her house and wanted to reselect. ??? I said. "you can't return custom mixed paint" Bear in mind this was almost $300 worth. And one can was partly used.

She said a manager told her to get what she wanted. Of course, that manager was not on duty, and the others didn't know anything about the exchange. She was also in a hurry because the painters were waiting, on overtime, I might add.

Finally, we contacted the manager in question. Opps! He agreed to the exchange because they had just spent over $10,000 building a new addition.

So I start to get the replacement paint set up for mixing... Now the menopausual, indecision maker *still* isn't sure just what (cough) off-white she wants. (visions of another 10 gals. returned) I coded a manager, and he stood there while I explaned to her she would not be able to return this batch, and she better be sure of the color. She left, still indecision making, with her paint. And I suspect the painters had it all on the walls before she could change her mind again. Man! Ya gotta love retail...

Dealing with the public in any way is always fun hahaha. We catch somebody building something without a permit and it is our fault that they didn't get a permit. The best though is when the thing they are building is not to code and they have to tear it down.

Had one guy trying to span 20' with 2 x 6 floor joists. He only weighed maybe 120 and was walkingon itas he was building it. His wife weighed well over 200 and luckily had not stepped on it. I weigh 195 and stepped on it carefully , near the edge. I could feel the deck moving under me as it started to sag. This guy still wouldn' t believe that it was unsafe. Another one was the people who wanted to sue us when their hot tub went through the deck and got destroyed on the concrete below. When they applied for the deck permit there was no mention of installing a hot tub, which requires a lot more support. Water weighs around 8# per gallon and this tub held 75 gallons. that;s a lot of weight. Of course we are supposed to be mind readers and know they are going to do this.VeryFunny.gifVeryFunny.gif

Might not be on topic, but i have a fresh rant.

I went to Applebees to eat today. I was seated right under a speaker. The whole time we were eating they played nothing but BRC (black rap crap, no offense). I had to speak up to talk to anyone!!!! Do they think that every customer is a mindless idiot that listens to that kind of crap?

Link to post
Share on other sites

Wow, Bubbabob,

I always thought Applebees was supposed to be a "family restaurant", I'm kinda surprized they were playing that! I don't like Rap, either (except Kid Rock's cowboy song....) Originally the lyrics were funny (think old Will Smith) or thought provoking, but nowadays the lyrics are absolutely disgusting! And besides, music is supposed to be sung. Maybe the manager was gone :)

Your rant is the reason I just hate going to bars. When I go out, I want to visit, and who can hold any sort of conversation with the music blaring?? Save the loud music for concerts, I say, and even then, turn it down a little bit. Ringing ears afterwards isn't fun!

Hey Bubba Bob, I can't stand Rap. Even thogh I'm a "young teen with raging hormones" (lol) I don't listen to rap.

<RANT>

I cannot stand it when I'm walking down the street, and some 17-year-old moron drives buy in a "pimped" up truck that has no muffler and is blaring some G-Unit "music". More often than not, I have to fight the erge to yell out "Ya, you're real cool!" (in a wonderful sarcastic tone) as they stop at a stop sign or something. (That has gotten me in trouble before -- but that story can be told at a later time...)

</RANT>

EDIT: er.. aftre reading my rant, it seemed a bit harsher than some of the others.. Hope I didn't offend anyone. If so, Ill be glad to edit or remove the post. Dont wunna start a flame war or anything...

(prepares the fire hose incase of flame war)

don't worry mistamatt you can tell from your post that you don't want to offend anyone, your just expressing yourself. besides i think that i'm the only one who really listens to any rap here anyways. with there being about a dozen different types of rap i'm pretty picky about who i listen to, like i can't stand gangster rap. especially when all their lyrics are about shooting, killing, and how cool they are cause they have a ton of money. i listen to more of the kinda that are more like poetry at heart, they're usually the kind that end up in trouble though.

but it would be nice to hear a story about you getting into trouble.

now for my rant, and it's one that's close to my heart and one that most everyone does, including myself.

RANT

money! you heard me, money! the self observing need to get tons of money and buy tons of unnecessary stuff so that you feel better about yourself almost validating your life. then when the high of feeling complete wears off over that new stereo you have to get more money to buy more stuff. like most of you probably know i had a short while a few years ago where i made my little contribution to the computing world and on paper i was worth alot. so i spent alot. i got sucked into that spending cycle of doom. well then the company filed bankruptcy and the CEO and Pres hi-tailed it with the company money, the program i wrote was sold off, chopped up and spit out with a fancy interface and i was left with empty pockets. i like everyone else at least once in their life became obsessed with being a consumer whore just wanting more. i never realized just how badly our country, even the whole world had become just a massive collection of consumers. no matter what music you listen to there's always some group that's saying like us and then they flaunt their money and toys. that's what kids see and that's what they begin to think matters in life. BLING BLING! what i've learned through all of this is that Friends, Family, and Love are what matter in life. Not the new G5 or $300,000 car or the fancy house, all these things do is impress others and fill the gap in your life for a short while.

RANT OVER

sorry for the deep rant, but it's one that i've lived.

OK, Matt, you're busted...you must tell the story! About your sarcastic remark you wanted to make, my daughter would have MADE it. Good thing she's cute, it's gotten her out of a lot of trouble....I'm always saying, "you said WHAT????"

Macmarauder, I agree with you. In-Laws "supposably" grew up as poor as could be, yet they are the most materialistic bunch of snobs I've ever seen!! A Christmas gift I give is homemade Christmas Wreaths, and everyone except them just loves them. They told Hubby that they "would rather have a gift from a store". Well, that's 4 less wreaths I make now....

And don't let that bling fool you, most of those folks are in debt up to their eyeballs financing those fancy toys--notice how popular debt consolodation ads are nowadays?

my rant

Has to do with money, too. I know some folks who are living high off the hog ripping off the Welfare System. One gets money for childcare--her mother babysits and gives the checks back to her--she has a top-of-the-line computer, movie channels, cell phone, newer leased car, takes casino vacations and works part time at a bowling alley.

Another I know has a daughter with some health problems--the whole family is on Medicaid and literally everything, including glasses, is paid for--daughter is 9 years old, fine now, yet they still get tons of benefits. She's ripping off the daycare thing, too, she gets money and her daughter has never had even a 13 year old down the street babysitter.

Another has thousands upon thousands of dollars in her house because if she puts it in the bank, her DSI so-so security will be docked. And she wonders why the elderly are targets for burglars...... She got audited once and I took her down to the office. I had to "excuse myself to go to the restroom", the real reason was hearing her tell lie after lie. And then she got really mad at me afterwards when I asked her why she was lying.

I don't know how these folks can sleep at night when there are families who really NEED help out there. Every now and then, I think I should turn them in, but in reality, it won't do any good--unfortunately our government has gotten to big to listen to a "common citizen"--and then I'll have to deal with a guilty conscience for purposely causing another person harm (even if they DO deserve it!)

end rant

I've got the fire extinguisher, Mac :thumbsup:

OK mac and blim.. here's what happened:

Someone was driving by in a black sports car, with some rap music blaring and what not. So as they drove by me (I was with some friends) I yelled "Yo dawg! You're sweet homie," and we all started laughing. This obviously obsetted them, as they made a U-Turn in the middle of the road... pulled over, and briskly jumped out of the car. There were 4 of them, probably 18 or 19 years old. I think I was 14 at the time. Anyhow, I just bolted in the other direction. They at first chased me.. but a ran dow a wooded hill, and I guess they turned around and left. Heh, not a story I'm too proud of, but entertaining enough. :blush: My stupid friends didn't help much either..

Matt, that's good!! :lol:

Hmm, lets see what do I have...

<rant>

Drugs. Illegal drugs. Prescription drugs. We have all kinds of drugs! Now, we have drugs for just about anything here in the USA. I mean anything. You ever see those commercials where it's basically like "Do you go to bed at night and wake up in the morning?!" We all know, there is that someone who goes "OMG I HAVE THAT!! I NEED THAT PILL!" Us Americans are now relying on the "quick fix" for everything. I mean, even doctors who have gone to medical school are prescribing anti-biotics for viral infections, even though they can't do a damn thing! Anti-biotics are for bacterial infections. In fact, using anti-biotics for viral infections will keep the anti-biotic from working when you actually need it. Now, we have illegal drugs as well. Well, basically, (now I don't do drugs, so I'm not saying this because I do.) since the gov't can't tax those illegal drugs, they don't want people having them, even though some of them can be used for legit purposes. Like relieving pain, cancer patients, and also patients with multiple sclerosis.

Now, back to prescription drugs. We have tons and tons of commercials for these drugs, and apparently they are working. You see a bunch of "nice" stuff in the commercials like people running on the beach, dogs running around, little kids, "sexy" people, etc... So when people see that it looks good and they go buy that drug. But what people like to ignore is the disclaimers at the bottom. May cause heart attack, nausea, some kind of pain, can harm pregnancy, etc.. all that crap. Yet people still buy the damn drug! Come on people! Don't fall for that advertising, that seems to work so well.

</rant>

Whew! That feels good! B)

Oooh, Matt,

Sounds like you lucked out and thankfully you can run fast!!! That must have scared the daylights out of you as 18-19 year olds are alot bigger than 14 year olds!! I guess with Daughter, there are advantages with being a little blonde with the face of an angel and a quick grin--she just ends up getting laughed at--but boy is she a smart*ss sometimes. The things she gets away with just amaze me.....

I want to hear your story Mac

Great rant Jeff, I won't even take tylenol unless I'm really suffering. All the viagra ads and now they say about 50 people may have been blinded from using it. thumbsdown.gif

Do most people buy cars that have optional turn signals, because around this area half of them don't seem to have any, or at least don't know how to use them. 188.gif

Macmarauder, like I told Matt, you're busted, you must confess!! Enquiry Minds Want to Know!

Jeff, I agree with your drug rant and laugh when it is exposed that the "old fashioned drugs" work better than these "new fangled drugs"!! And the side effects sound worse than the ailment!

Robroy, as I told Hubby when that Viagra thing came out, "well, we all know what Grandma says will make you blind" Maybe the blinded men weren't using it as originally intended.... ;);):blink::rolleyes::blink:

I crack up about the "viagra for women" (can't remember what its called) commercials. Heh, I think its speed!!
