Hijack Log - Apparent Cws Trojan Infection

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could take a look at this log and tell me whats suspicious

i have already downloaded Ad-aware and spybot search and destroy - no amount of deleting and immunizing has gotten rid of the last 3 culprits according to Spybot.

coolwwwsearch.aff.winshow

URLSearchHook.Atlpz

Startpage-EH

i downloaded the free version of spyware doctor which detected 243 infected files - EEK! so im at a loss as to where to go next.

i have also tried AVG anti virus which found the trojan - and again failed to delete it.

my norton antivirus settings have expired and im waitin on a new disk to renew my subscription - should have it by the end of the week - i suppose its my own fault for not updating right away!

meanwhile, i dont know what else to do. it has rerouted my homepage to about:blank, added random sites to my favourites list and i have countless adverts for spyware removers (how ironic!)

i followed your instructions onsite and the log file i got for HiJack This was as follows..

k rock, i did as requested but when lookin to fix some files both of the ones with the 04-hklm\..\runOnce were not present.

also when looking to delete files, system32\sdkyy.exe wasnt there, neither was system32\netij.dll(there was a netid.dll - that it?)

the log file now looks as follows...

Your log is clean :)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.
