I'm running win me and that happens to me, very rare tho. I use regseeker for cleaning my registry and it has a thing to refresh the icon cache. I don't know if this works with XP but you can delete the desktop icons to the recycle bin then restore them.

Have you done a Disk cleanup and defragment? Clean out your browser cache and clean up your cookies?

You can also set your system to do a disk scan, booting into safe mode to run it.

This is usually pretty good about clearing things up. :)

Maybe I missed this as well, but what is your OS?

hi team so far so good.

i use winxppro

first i deleted my idle icons in the reg, while in there i deleted all my search options and i had heaps of them

then i went to safe mode and deleted my temp, cookies, all caches.

then i scanned my disk.

then i defragged

before this i turned off my sys restore.

after deleteing my restore points i turned it back on and set a restore point

then o rebooted and guess what every thing is back to normal.

now this overclocking thing.i havent checked that yet.but im off there now

the reason i posted this fix is incase some one has the same problem.

remember this is for winxppro.tho i think idle icon thing in the reg is the same on all wins

marty

i even did the start =run -cmd -ipconfig/flushdns thing

and the - run- regsvr32 urlmon.enter thing

does any one any more.i can try.my compt is now like a babys bumb
