Computer by Gateway

40 gig hard drive - (original was 80 gig)

512 ram

Pentium 4

Windows XP

Brownser IE 6

Norton Antivirus 2006

Spyware Doctor

Lavasofts Ad-Aware 2007

Problem: Infected with "downloader" and "downloaderMisleadApp" which are hijacking my google searches and takes them to "search-daily.com and proceeds on to "cyberstroll.com". I also repeatedly see blimps of windows trying to load on my page but I think my popup blocker is taking care of that. My computer is also V_E_R_Y sllllllloooooowwwww.

This then, I have had trojan.adclicker (the worst yet), trojan.SpamThru and others invade my computer with out my approval.

Both my Norton Antivirus and my Spyware Doctor program do locate the virus and will destroy it but only to have it return again (I don't know what makes it return). It does seem to have some sort of attachment to google for some reason - however I don't believe "google" is responsibly for any part of the problem. I also have a page that loads up on my computer (if I leave it idle too long) that tries to get me to "try their antivirus program - because it has detected a virus on my computer" so it says. I have since learned that this is just another loader of some sort ready to offer me more trouble.

I have done regular scans, safe mode scans with my protectors and nothing seems to hold these virus's down.

Where did I get this.

I think it was from a program called "limewire" - music sharing; a napster type program. The instructions advised me to shutdown all my popup blockers etc so that the program would not have any problems downloading into my computer (yeah, never again). I have since remove this music sharing program.

I have contacted Norton about this and their instructions to me proved to be worthless as the problem simply came back.

Any ideas? I have been told this was one of the best places for help.

Thanks,

Jim

edit: I forgot to add that I get unwelcome ads (splash screens) when I am surfing the web from "superiorads" and my pop-up blocker seems to be defenseless against this. I see constant little windows trying to open and then suddenly close.

Also, my Spyware doctor always pulls out Hkey\local_Machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run with "spa_start" as the offending trojan or what ever it is called.

Thanks.
