Only 4 Easy Payments Of $$$ .........

All right, we've all seen these rediculous ads on TV, ad nauseam.

Pet rocks, chia pets, ghinzu knives that will fillet a fish and also saw down an oak tree, pills that will make an 80 year old bald man grow an afro and look like Jimi Hendrix, etc, etc, etc.

Here's the thing. We ALL know that they are lying, right? Maybe accept them as comical at best?

So how is it that they can continue to afford expensive TV time to keep advertising this crap and annoying any person with an IQ over 40?

ARGHHHHH!

IBD..... impulsive buying disorder.

Some people can't help it, some don't know any better.

You see people with impulsive disorders on the net all the time. Just start a topic on why you want to get a Windows OS.... And watch those with IMDs (impulsive Mac disorders) come out.. Or ILD... (impulsive Linux disorders).

NO NO NO... I'm just kidding..... ;)

Here's the thing. Everyone does NOT know they're lying.

Everyone does not have Internet access, everyone does not own a car, etc. There are enough people who don't know about the scam, or who are not skeptical of them, yet, added to those who know but think maybe this one time it will work, plus those who are essentially addicted to buying or who are extrememly susceptible to professionally made, highly researched (as far as "what works") "pitches."

It's the ages-old "Brooklyn bridge" thing. Nothing new.

Ok... I'll admit it, I recently bought a Chia-pet, the Sylvester and tweety one with the fast growing cat grass. When I went to Rite-aid to get it there was only one left, the girl said they're very popular gifts for people with cats, thats what I used it for.

And you never know when a tree is going to fall on you while your filleting a fish :D

Well some of them are sinking all their money and everything they can borrow into something because they think it is going to sell; even though no major marketer agrees. Sometimes they succeed (Sandra Lee from FoodTV Simply Homemade started out this way. She came up with some curtain hanger system based on bent coat hangers which she had a metal worker uncle make a batch of and after selling some at the state fair she decided to try to market them. No distributors bought so she did an informercial with Florence Henderson and made a fortune. Same thing with her "simply homemade" cookbook. Only after things started selling well were other distributors interested in licensing.).

Some folks see this and feel that their idea too will make them rich.

Others know that there are suckers out there who will buy it for whatever reason (loneliness and willingness to buy something just to talk to someone late at night , unable to resist the pitch even if they have never got anything but crap off the air, do not know about things like the internet or walmart...) and that if they only hook in a few people to buy something at a tremendously inflated price they have made a profit if their product costs next to nothing to produce.

They do it for the same reason any advertiser does, the margin; the hope that it will cost less than the increased sales justify.
