bearskin Posted December 8, 2007 Report Share Posted December 8, 2007 I have about 50 old vhs movies I would like to put on dvd.I want to use a stand alone converter since my wife won't let me use the computer that long.I need some opinions on brand name converters and some good tips.anyone have experience with this kind of stuff? irregularjoe Posted December 8, 2007 Report Share Posted December 8, 2007 (edited) I bought a Lite-On LVW 511SGHCIt's Dual Sided DVD R/RW-+ CD-R/RW-+. also plays MP3, AVI's, MPEG's and more.Paid abought $120 a year ago.I set it up to put alongside my TIVO that is always full with the intentions of recording DVD from the content.It has component, S-Video out and Composite, S-Video in. And of course alalog audio in/out.Should work fine along aside a VHS player.I just checked and it looks like it's been updated with a new model, but look through their website. bar5 Posted December 8, 2007 Report Share Posted December 8, 2007 I bought a Panasonic VCR-DVD Combo unit, and it is very easy to use. Just put the VHS tape you want to copy in on one side and a blank DVD on the other, follow instructions and copy. The model I have is Panasonic DMR ES46V I bought a refurbished unit, updated firmware, works like a charm. I got it over a year ago, so I'm sure it has an updated unit. Price was $150. Also the "Lite-On" Joe suggested is an excellent choice. Just check out good brand names, my opinion only. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Analog out from the VCR to the analog in on the DVD Recorder. Video and audio. You have to do it in real time.Probably be easier to put the signal through a TV so that you can see what's being recorded. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
