just change these lines from

Depth 24
Modes "1440x1440" "1400x1050" "1280x1280" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x921" "1152x864" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480"

to

Depth 24
Modes "1440x900" "1280x960" "1152x921" "1152x864" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480"

then change this from

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "AL1917W"
Option "DPMS"
EndSection

to

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "AL1917W"
Option "DPMS"
Modeline "1440x900" 137.250 1440 1552 1704 1936 900 903 909 942 -hsync +vsync
EndSection

I am not sure why powerstrip is giving you different timings. From my understanding they should not change just because you installed a new card. If you happen to kill your X-server(lose your gui), I will be happy to put the file on my server for you to download again. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same predicament, but could not get my monitor to detect 1440x900 resolution

I have identical xorg.conf

I can login, but the fonts are wider than usual, because it is running as a 4:3 not LCD 16:9 widescreen.

I have not been able to get my ATI x1650 Radeon card to work yet, so perhaps that needs to be addressed first.
