Free Up Some Hd Space

Recommended Posts

I learned a neat tip the other day.

I'm sure that a lot of you already know that you can free up some HD

space by right clicking on the recycle bin and going to properties and

setting the slider back to about 1 or 2%

Did you also know that the System Restore can be set back, too?

The default setting here is 12% and that's a lot. You can safely

set that back to about 2 or 3% and save a lot of space here, too.

Go to Start Menu-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore

and then choose System Resore Settings on the left side of the page.

with sys restore

i leave it at the maximum

and when i clean my sys i delete the present

restore accumelations then go in and set a restore

point

the danger of having it to low

is

some times you dont have a enough restore points

to change the sys

it happened to me once

and like you i had it set to low

so i learned my lesson

but each to his own

and what works for you may not work for others

----------------

do you delete or defrag the prefetch folder

some times that saves space

jsk had a tutorial on it

what i do

i defrag it because if you delete the folder

you have to save the folder

called layout it has a yellow gear attached to it

other wise it slows the sys down

but your tips are valid

and if it helps to save space go for it

True---you have to consider the size of your HD.

Mine is 80 Gig so 3% is about 2½ Gigs of space.

If I had a smaller drive, then I would probably set

it for a larger amount.

another way that i free up space is in the TEMP Folder. The temp folder is located in your harddrives "Documents and Settings" folder, under your username. This folder fills up usually when programs store information in this folder and dont remove it. It's really annoying, i even have a shortcut to it on my desktop.
