The Cello And The Arts

Recommended Posts

My sister is an artist and had one of her pieces shown at a gallery here in Cali a while back with a bunch of like pieces... all based on the cello as the predominate media.

While I was able to view the objects d'art in person I didn't realize until today that a slide show of all the pieces in the show was available... and here they are.

Wow, Bobby! Fantastic show! That's a lot of cellos--are they paintings of cellos or did she collect all those and paint them? Looks like she painted cellos but I can't imagine collecting that many (they're expensive!)

Thanks for sharing that and please pass on "Bravo!" to your sister. She sure is talented.

hey bobby that is terrific

i happen to be a fan of the cello

it has an unusual sound

that can last for several hours

no other instrument has that haunting sound

my grand daughter is learning the violin

she lives in australia

and she wanted a back up instrument

she suggested the guitar

but after playing them for 30 years

they have lost their appeal

with the big sound

and the wha wha

sound

i suggested the cello

at first i said the fiddle

and she said grand dad it isnt the fiddle

it is a cello

so looks like grand dad has to fork out for a fiddle [cello]

but she has all the musical theory in place

so i may go broke buying the thing

but i will

The cellos were all functional and were donated for this project. I'll have to ask my sister who or how the donation came about, because yes... they are rather dear in price. My sister only had her hand in one of the creations whose inspiration was from Botticelli's "Birth of Venus"

I agree. I love the cello's mellow resonance. I can still vividly recall a string quartet recital I attended with Pacelbel's Canon in D being played... and although a midi recording is often lacking here's a sampling: (some midis with cello parts... click the listen icon)

Kudos to you Marty ! Your grand-daughter is lucky indeed to have you.

Bravo Bobby!

Very good.

Btw, I have a special admiration of anything Sandro Botticelli.
